Kansas City Zoo

I went to the Kansas City Zoo yesterday. It is in Swope park in the south east part of Kansas City. As a Jackson County resident, which I am, you receive free entry to the zoo from time to time in the mail.

I'll start by saying I'm not a zoo person, seeing animals in cages is not exactly a good time for me but I do love animals and since entry was free and it was a beautiful day I took advantage.

It is a nice zoo, it is quite large and they have lots of exhibits. My favorite was the polar bear, Nuniq is his name. He was so playful and it was incredible to watch him play with his toy inside of his habitat. What was odd is seeing a polar bear in the Midwest in the middle of August, and this is why I dont love zoos. Sanctuaries, rescues, I'm all for those. But zoos breed these animals in captivity for profit and that is where my problem lies. Anyway, I digress, the zoo is nice. Its a wonderful place to spend the day and its a great place especially for children to unplug and learn.

If you are into zoos I highly recommend it. They are set to open the new aquarium September 1, 2023 so I will return to see that at some point.
